Way back in 2015, LUX had it’s first light show around Wellington’s inner city and by all measures it was a success. Two years later and Wellington’s LUX festival is back for 2017. It looks like its going to be bigger and better than before.
I was going through my photos the other day and saw a folder called “LUX 2015”. Most of the photo’s I never posted anywhere or shared with anyone. So considering LUX 2017 starts in four days here are some images all the way back from 2015.
The crystal lights forest was located in Odlins Plaza amongst the food trucks
Most of the festival was based around Wellington’s waterfront with a few displays on Whairepo Lagoon.
A few side installations like the Jellyfish were further along the waterfront.
A number of installations made use of Wellington’s lane ways and side streets.
Opera House lane had a number of displays that included sound, music and a story being told.
Eva/Leeds Street had buildings lit up and was designated the start of the LUX walk.
Starting at the top of Eva/Leeds Street, this tree was marked number one on the LUX walk.
Other displays included this light ball suspended in a black box that you walked into and looked up.
In Frank Kitts Park a number of displays were set up. This one made sounds based on your hands movements.
A tree made from lunch boxes and then lit up. Once the festival finished, each lunch box was packed with food and given to a child in need.
Along the waterfront kids got to use UV chalk to draw all over the pavement.
LUX 2015 brought Wellington into a whole new light and it was awesome to see the city develop its potential to have a festival throughout the city that was free. So fast forward two years and we’re four days from the 2017 festival. It already looks like its grown from 2015 while still maintaining its Wellington vibe.
